Decision Rights

Definition

Decision rights define which level or role in an organisation may take which decision – from investment approvals and pricing changes to staffing decisions. Unclear decision rights are one of the most common causes of slow implementation and stalled innovation. In organisational design they are treated, together with degrees of autonomy and the sequencing of change steps, as a core design decision.

Example: "Only a clear allocation of decision rights sped up the approval processes."
