Strategy Execution
Definition
Strategy execution describes translating a strategic decision into the structures, processes, roles and metrics of day-to-day business. Research on acquisitions, divestitures and restructurings shows that most initiatives fail not because of the underlying idea but because of implementation: unclear decision rights, too little or too much unit autonomy and badly sequenced steps destroy synergies. For MBA students, execution is therefore a competence field in its own right alongside strategy development.
Example: "The strategy was clear, yet the project failed at strategy execution."
