IELTS

Definition

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is one of the world's most widely recognized English language tests. IELTS Academic is required by many business schools and universities as proof of English proficiency for MBA and Master's programs. The test assesses four language skills: Listening (30 minutes), Reading (60 minutes), Writing (60 minutes) and Speaking (11-14 minute personal interview). Scoring is on a scale of 1-9, with most MBA programs requiring a score of 6.5-7.5. IELTS is particularly common in the UK, Australia, Canada and Europe, and is accepted by many institutions as equivalent to TOEFL.

Example: "An IELTS score of 6.5 is sufficient for admission."
