The Best MBA Employers at 24 Leading U.S. Business Schools
Who really hires the most MBAs from leading U.S. business schools? Sure, you know McKinsey, Bain, and BCG are there, as are Amazon and Google. But who else? And what percentage of graduates from top MBA programs are actually hired by these companies?
In a rare and exclusive look at elite MBA employment, we present the top ten employers of MBA graduates at 24 of the leading business schools over the past three years. Few business schools publish a ranking of top employers, and when they do, these lists are limited to a single graduating class. Now, Menlo Coaching, the premium MBA admissions consulting firm, has for the first time conducted a comprehensive analysis of MBA recruits, revealing exactly which companies hire from these schools on a large scale. Menlo Coaching's research team analyzed 51,991 LinkedIn student profiles to get to the bottom of it. To read the full report on all 24 schools from Menlo Coaching, please click here.
The analysis looks at the top employers of Harvard, Stanford, and Wharton MBAs (see Who Really Hires Harvard, Stanford & Wharton MBAs These Days ), it reports where McKinsey, Bain & BCG recruit the most MBAs, and it shows the state of MBA hiring at Goldman Sachs, JPMorganChase & Morgan Stanley.
The Most Frequent Top-5 Employer at 24 Schools? Amazon
The data reveals some big surprises. David White, founding partner of Menlo Coaching, notes that top employers are not the same as top feeder companies: "In an unpublished study, we identified Deloitte as the number one feeder for the 24 U.S. MBA programs analyzed, sending about twice as many students as the second-place BCG," he says. "However, Deloitte is only the fifth largest post-MBA recruiter across these 24 programs."
So which company is the most frequent top-five employer? Amazon. "The company made the top five employer list at every M7* school," says White. "Overall, Amazon was a top-five employer at 22 of the 24 MBA programs studied. Besides Amazon, Google was the other major tech company that frequently appeared in the top-five employer lists."
Unsurprisingly, some schools may be local favorites for companies. "While the top-five employers at most MBA programs are national recruiters who appear on lists for many different MBA programs, there are some large employers with a regional recruiting footprint," White explains. "For example, Dell was a top-five employer at UT Austin McCombs and UNC Kenan-Flagler, but not at other MBA programs, and Microsoft was a top-five employer only at the University of Washington's Foster School of Business."
