Founded in 1911, University of Iceland is the country’s oldest and largest institution of higher education. Since it is a public, government-funded university, it does not charge tuitions, many students also receive student loans from the Icelandic Student Loan Fund. The primary language of instruction is Icelandic, though many courses are also offered in English. In 2011, the school has been ranked 251-275 band on the Times Higher Education list.
